The potential for a community to offer meaningful, engaged lives for its citizens cannot be measured in terms of marketplace transactions. In place of financial returns, we measure the success of the CoLaunchpad by the new opportunities for our members to engage meaningfully with each other and the broader world. Exactly how to measure those “Community Gains” is one of the very difficult questions to be addressed by CoLaunchpad. While we don’t have all the answers, we do have some specific objectives to get started. We hope these will resonate with you and we look forward to hearing your creative suggestions on how to best assess success.
We have three main objectives:
A safe place where members feel supported and capable of trying something new
Possible examples: A mother or father advancing their career and being a caregiver through jobsharing; A journalist launching a local newspaper with a community-based editorial board; A team of parents developing a suite of family-based apps with their children; A woman hosting a pop-up “Global Café” where people from different cultures can learn from each other how to handle “taboo” issues.
Increasing the number and quality of meaningful interactions for members (including increasing what members consider their “productive” time)
Possible examples: A parent of a dyslexic child working part-time on a reading app for dyslexics; an experienced law partner helping younger lawyers grow personally and professionally by integrating mindfulness into their practices; members providing backup for a mom with a small business who needs someone to pickup the kids when she has something unexpected come up at work.
Increasing the number and quality of meaningful opportunities within our community
Possible examples: a new enterprise that strengthens family connections through mobile apps; a new consultancy that provides high paid, part-time positions for stay at home parents with professional skills; A monthly or weekly pop-up market for community members to meet and buy from local producers of craft food.
